V7ndotcom Elursrebmem Contest Information

V7ndotcom Elursrebmem Interview - John Scott

An interview with V7N.com founder and V7ndotcom Elursrebmem contest organiser, John Scott.

Can you give us a bit of information about yourself and your SEO history?

I really don’t do a lot of SEO. It’s much more fun watching SEO’s bicker amongst themselves than actually joining in. And many SEO’s miss the big picture – rankings are nothing without a viable marketing strategy.

SEO contests – good thing or bad thing? What impact do you see this SEO contest and subsequent contests having on the industry?

The contest can be nothing other than a learning experience for webmasters and Google alike. If people pay attention to who ranks and why they rank, it'll be a priceless education.

What’s your take on how Google will view the contest? Some people are pointing out the artificial link building issue – are we going to see some v7ndotcom elursrebmem penalties?

I doubt it. SEO contests have been going on for years, and there are always some folks who warn of a doomsday for anyone who participates, but I have never seen any indication of this. I suspect that Google has bigger fish to fry – actual spammers who spam using real keywords.

What’s going to win – white hat or black hat?

Grey hat. I already see some not too pretty linking going on – blog spamming and the like – and I’ll guess that it is one of those that will win this.

What’s going to win – established site or new site?

Established domain. We see this in the SERPs all the time. When “v7ndotcom elursrebmem” exceeds a certain search-per-day count, I’m guessing a filter will kick in and newer sites will lose ranking.

What’s going to win – forum post, blog or standard web page?

Blog.

Lot’s of people snapped up keyword domains pretty quick (within hours) – after 4 months is this likely to give them much of an edge?

I doubt that the keyword domain will help that much in big scheme of things. If keywords in the domain counts for 5, anchor text in links count for 500.

If you had to choose, which engine would you prefer to base the results on?

I personally like Yahoo. But I doubt a Yahoo SEO Contest would pick up any steam. Who knows? Maybe I’ll try that next, but only if Greg Boser promises to tag along on that one, too.

224k results on Google.com for “nigritude ultramarine” – will “v7ndotcom elursrebmem” beat that? What’s your guestimate for the total pages indexed by Google for the term come May 15th?

I’d guess that this one will be at least twice as big. We’ve got some awesome publicity, and it seems that while the NU contest was stuck on the sidelines of SEO, this time around a lot of mainstream SEO folks are jumping in with both feet.

Do you have your entry ready?

I wish I could compete, but being the judge it the contest and a contestant would create problems, so I’ll just enjoy the show.

If we win any prize money we’re going to donate it to charity based on our forum users votes – I’d like to add the charity of your choice to the list (seeing you’re stumping up some cash n’ all!) – What’s your preferred charity?

My father is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s, and I cannot express how much I hate that disease. So I nominate the Alzheimer’s Association.

Final note – if you have one piece of advice to give the contest entrants what would it be?

Enjoy it. It’s just a contest.

Many thanks John.
